Great expectations?

In life from a young age we learn to expect things.  We expect Santa to bring us a train set or a new doll for Christmas, we expect to have our parents love and protect us, we expect life to be wonderful and exciting.  As we get older those habits of expectation are carried forward and we form new expectations, some are positive and some negative.  We might expect to find a life long partner, expect to ‘live happily ever after’, expect  to have or not have children; on the other hand we could expect not to find a partner who will be nice to us all the time, not to have a successful career, not to be happy or fit or healthy.

All these expectations make us think too much about the what ifs and what if nots.  They set our sights on what we think will happen, what we expect to happen and we spend time pondering and fretting about stuff all from our own singular perspective.  Pondering like this does not make available to us extraordinary opportunities that could happen that we have not allowed for.  These, for the most part, won’t happen because we have closed ourselves off to their possibilities and even if they do present themselves we may not ‘see’ them because we are too busy only looking into our own little box.

When we let go of our expectations for an event or for ourselves, we allow for the possibilities of all that is more than we think is achievable.  We allow for energies to work in our favour, to give us the greatest growth.  For we don’t know what the world has to offer us and by confining ourselves to a small box and only expecting certain outcomes we limited ourselves and what is possible for us to become, do and be.

Enjoy
